Doveleigh Care Celebrates National Care Home Open Week

Doveleigh Care took part in National Care Home Open Week, with two of its homes hosting their own successful Open Days.

Care Home Open Week is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the wonderful work our homes do while connecting with the local community. This year’s theme was the Football World Cup, and both Dove Lodge Care Home in Exmouth and Dove Court Care Home in Seaton embraced the theme, making their Open Days a great success.

Dove Lodge Care Home, Exmouth

Dove Lodge held its Open Day on 17th June, with a full schedule of Football World Cup-themed activities.

The day began with a visit from Spindle Tree, a musical trio who entertained everyone with football-themed songs.

The Mayor of Exmouth then visited the home, taking time to chat with residents and staff. Residents and visitors also enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by the home’s cooks.

The Town Crier paid a visit, spending time chatting with residents before Woodbury Primary School arrived to put on a fantastic football display. Residents particularly enjoyed meeting the children and watching their impressive football skills.

To round off the day, The East Devon Brass Band performed a variety of songs, including football favourites that got everyone in the spirit of cheering on England in the World Cup.

Throughout the day, the Activities Team also ran the Dove Lodge Football Photo Booth and a tombola in support of the Military Veterans Society. In total, the tombola raised £138.00.

A big thank you goes to the local shops that generously donated prizes for the tombola.

Dove Court Care Home, Seaton

Dove Court held its Open Day on 19th June, with another fantastic programme of activities.

The day began with an entertaining performance from a magician, leaving residents delighted by a variety of impressive tricks.

Next came the much-anticipated Biscuit World Cup, where residents voted from eight different biscuits. After several knockout rounds, the ultimate champion was crowned—the ever-popular Chocolate Digestive!

Residents and staff also enjoyed a penalty shootout using a goal creatively made from cardboard, wool and paint by our talented residents and staff. There were plenty of goals and lots of laughter.

After lunch, Mini Concerts visited for a wonderful Country and Western-themed afternoon, telling a story through music. Residents sang along, danced and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

The day concluded with a delicious barbecue, where everyone came together to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Open Days such a success—including our dedicated staff, the local community, our residents and their families, and all those who came along to support us.

Missed our Open Days but would still like a tour? We’d love to welcome you.
